What are the Benefits of Dental Implants?

Aug 8 • 1 minute read

Dental implants are the leading solution to tooth loss. Without teeth, our smile suffers both functionally and aesthetically. Dental implants restore the full function, and healthy appearance once had before tooth loss.

Keep reading to discover the many benefits of dental implants.

Restore Full Function

It’s obvious that teeth are intended to chew. But under the gums, where we can’t see, the roots of our teeth serve an imperative function. Roots keep the alveolar jaw bone full and stimulated. Without them, the bone will shrink in size in a process known as accelerated bone resorption. This affects overall facial composition over time, leading to a prematurely aged appearance.

The posts of dental implants act as a tooth root. They ensure the continued strength of the alveolar bone and contribute to overall strength in your oral structure.

Permanency

Dental implants are the most permanent option for tooth replacement. Whereas bridges and dentures must be replaced to compensate for alveolar bone shrinkage, implants prevent that shrinkage in the first place.

Dental implant posts become one with the body in a process called osseointegration, in which bone tissue grows and solidifies in the groves of the implant. Once implant posts are fully integrated into the jaw, they can support life-like crowns of porcelain, zirconia, or any material of your preference. Because of their strong support structure, these crowns can last from 10 to 15 years. The implant posts beneath them can last even longer.

Anti-Aging Effects

A face with characteristics of accelerated bone resorption may look older than it is. The cheeks and lips will collapse without teeth to support them. A strong jaw becomes small and weak. Although there are procedures to add bone mass and improve density, it is difficult to completely replace the fullness of our original bone structure.

Whether it be daily sunscreen use, a healthy diet, or a regular exercise routine, the best anti-aging methods are preventive. Choose dental implants to prevent the effects of accelerated bone resorption. If you’re interested in dental implants, contact Woodbridge Dental Services.
